• Monument in Trandum Forest
Between December 1941 and October 1944, the German Security Police used Trandum Forest as a site of mass shootings. Mainly Norwegian resistance fighters were executed here, mostly without having been put on trial. Since 1954, there has been a monument on this site dedicated to the victims of the shootings.

Between December 29, 1941 and October 30, 1944, German Security Police shot 173 Norwegians, 6 Britons and 15 Soviet citizens in Trandum Forest. SS-Hauptsturmführer Oskar Hans supervised the shootings commandos. Most of the victims were active in the resistance movement.
After the war had come to an end, Oskar Hans led investigative authorities to the forest site. In the aftermath, a majority of the victims could be identified. A Norwegian court passed a mild sentence on Hans due to the fact that he had acted upon »superior orders«.

The Organisation of Norwegian Resistance Fighters spoke out in favour of erecting a monument to the victims of the shootings in Trandum Forest for the first time in 1946. In 1951, this idea was picked up by the Association of Norwegian Participants of the World War.
On October 10, 1954, crown prince Olav inaugurated the memorial stone designed by artist Per Palle Storm. Engraved on a wall next to the monument are the names of the victims. Small stones along a forest path mark the sites on which the 18 mass graves were discovered.
